Maintenance and transmission of family wealth is critical, and for families spread over multiple jurisdictions, cross-border planning is becoming increasingly complex. Clients look to Doug for solutions to various legal, strategic, and administrative challenges related to estate planning.
Doug has more than 40 years of experience in dealing with planning and administration for domestic and multinational families. In a world where wealth transfer faces increasingly complex reporting requirements, he has dealt with disclosure matters in a wide variety of contexts. Doug has also advised high net worth families with respect to a variety of family offices, family foundations, and other not-for-profit entities. In addition, Doug has handled complex US estate and income tax planning for nonresident individuals.
In Surrogate's Court, Doug has extensive practice experience representing executors, trustees, guardians, and beneficiaries in contested probate, administration, and accounting proceedings, including trial and appellate work. He has also handled audit and appellate tax matters before the International Revenue Service and New York State Tax Commission in gift, estate, and exempt organization tax matters.
Doug has worked on many complex estate plans, often including assets in several jurisdictions requiring review and understanding of various international estate and gift tax treaties. He has also worked on the administration of estates in conjunction with foreign counsel to reduce double taxation matters.
