Over the course of his career, Allan has represented and counseled clients regarding numerous domestic and international corporate, securities, and financial transactions.

Allan has structured and advised corporate clients regarding complex business mergers, acquisitions, and dispositions involving up to several billion dollars of assets. He has counseled many public and private entrepreneurial growth companies, advised boards of directors and senior management regarding governance and corporate compliance issues, acted as issuer's and underwriter’s counsel in numerous public equity and debt securities offerings, and represented companies in a variety of national and international projects, including structuring joint ventures among multinational enterprises.

Allan serves as the chairman of the board of the Oakmark family of domestic and international mutual funds. He also serves on the executive council and is chair of the International Relations Commission of the American Jewish Committee, serves on the Board of the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center and is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation.
