Aoife is an associate in the International Labour, Employment and Safety practice of Seyfarth Shaw Australia. The focus of Aoife’s practice is on work health and safety and she has extensive experience advising clients across a full spectrum of work health and safety matters. Aoife assists clients in every stage of the WHS process, including:

  • best practice due diligence and governance processes;
  • incident investigation;
  • responding to regulator notices and requests; and
  • company and officer defence against prosecution. 

She has a special interest in company and officer work health and safety duties and has recently completed a Masters in Law, her thesis focusing on employer duties in that area. She regularly designs and delivers WHS training to Boards of Directors and other Senior Executives holding duties under health and safety laws.

Aoife also advises employers on a broad range of contentious and non-contentious employment matters, including:

  • workplace bullying allegations;
  • termination of employment;
  • discrimination and adverse action claims;
  • breach of contract;
  • restraint of trade; and
  • the negotiation of contract terms and executive agreements. 

Aoife is proactive in her approach, providing high quality advice, with a view to delivering well thought out strategies for her clients that are designed to achieve practical and commercial outcomes. She works with clients across a number of industries including the mining, construction, insurance, communications, retail and financial sectors.

Aoife has written extensively on work health and safety, employment and insurance matters, including statutory interpretation, seminal decisions and practical employer guidance. Her articles have appeared in publications such as My Business magazine, HRD magazine and on a variety of organisational websites, including mondaq.com and employmentlawmatters.com.au. Her article "What is the difference between bullying and reasonable management action" won the Mondaq “5 star rating” Award for being the most frequently read article in Australia in August 2014.
