Ms. Martel is a senior member of the Business Immigration Group at Seyfarth Shaw LLP. She has over 25 years of immigration and human resource experience including over ten years at several healthcare institutions such as Partners Healthcare System in Boston, and over twelve years at large and small immigration practice firms. Ms. Martel has considerable experience in the preparation and filing of both Nonimmigrant and Immigrant visa petitions. She has prepared J-1, H-1B, H-2B, L-1, O-1, P-1 and TN applications on behalf of a diverse group of clients including heath care, hospitality, technology, educational and non-profit organizations. She has experience with the Department of Labor’s new labor certification process, the “PERM” on-line filing system. She also has prepared numerous Employment and Family based Immigrant Visa petitions and Adjustment of Status applications.

Ms. Martel is Senior Paralegal for several of Seyfarth Shaw clients, and works with Fortune 500 companies, educational institutions, medical research facilities, and private corporations.

Ms. Martel is a 1999 graduate of the Master of International Business program at the University of Melbourne, Melbourne, Australia. She earned her undergraduate degree in Political Science (Journalism minor) from the University of Delaware, Newark, Delaware in 1982.

Ms. Martel originally joined Seyfarth Shaw 2001. She returned again this year after six years of employment with a small immigration practice group located in Newport, Rhode Island.

Ms. Martel began her immigration career as an international recruiter for a corporation that owned and operated long-term care facilities throughout the United States. She recruited nurses, physical, occupational and speech therapist from the Philippines, U.K.,. Ireland, Australia and Scandinavia. Part of her job included preparing and processing H-1A and H-1B visa petitions. When Massachusetts General Hospital (now Partners Healthcare System) opened its Office for International Staff, Scholars and Students in 1992, Jamie was hired to oversee the preparation of non-immigrant petitions for its vast number of research scholars, students and medical professionals. She moved to Australia to pursue a Master’s degree and when she returned, she joined the Immigration Practice Group of Palmer & Dodge which later affiliated with Seyfarth Shaw. Ms. Martel is a member of Newport County Chamber of Commerce and a past member of NAFSA and ACIP. She has been a speaker at numerous events including the Rhode Island Hospitality Association, the Chamber of Commerce and NAFSA conferences to name a few. She enjoys client contact and her experience at both large and smaller immigration practices has provided her with a diverse skill set, including office management and marketing.
