Karen M. Carbone is counsel in the Labor & Employment Department of Seyfarth Shaw LLP’s New York office.

Prior to joining Seyfarth Shaw, Ms. Carbone was a member of the employment legal team at a large multinational investment bank for over seven years.  While there, she partnered with outside counsel to manage all aspects of the litigation process, including devising litigation strategy, conducting witness interviews, coordinating discovery, and negotiating settlement agreements.  Ms. Carbone also provided counsel and advice to Human Resources professionals on a wide array of employment issues including performance management, terminations, and day-to-day compliance with federal, state and local employment laws.  She regularly conducted employee investigations.  Ms. Carbone also developed and conducted training programs, and drafted policies and procedures aimed at risk management and process improvement.  Ms. Carbone began her legal career as an Associate in the Labor and Employment groups of two top law firms.  In that capacity, she represented corporate clients in suits brought in state and federal jurisdictions, as well as claims brought before various administrative agencies regarding such issues as gender, race, age, and disability discrimination; wage and hour claims; and breach of employment contract claims.  She defended a major financial services client in both a gender discrimination case and an ERISA case from pleading stage through successful summary judgment motions, resulting in dismissals of all claims against the client.  Ms. Carbone also defended arbitration claims brought by financial industry professionals before FINRA.

While a student at Fordham Law School, Ms. Carbone was a member of the Fordham Law Review and was a summer intern for the Honorable Helen E. Freedman, New York State Supreme Court, Commercial Division, as well as a legal writing teaching assistant for the 2001-2002 academic year.  Ms. Carbone graduated from Fordham cum laude, Order of the Coif.  Prior to going to law school, Ms. Carbone was a Human Resources professional at a premier Wall Street investment bank for several years.
