Ms. Pointer is counsel in the Employee Benefits & Executive Compensation Department of Seyfarth Shaw LLP.  She serves as a trusted partner to her clients and provides technical and practical advice on the administration of all types of employee benefit plans, most typically qualified retirement and 403(b) plans, and health and welfare plans.
 
Ms. Pointer’s experience includes matters related to design and implementation, maintenance and ongoing administration, ERISA and tax code compliance, reporting and disclosure requirements, and plan termination.  She assists clients with compliance issues, preparing submissions and negotiating with the IRS and DOL through their voluntary correction programs.  Ms. Pointer is a regular attendee at retirement committee meetings and advises on establishing and maintaining fiduciary structures and processes.  Her practice also involves negotiating recordkeeping and other contracts and assisting with the transition to recordkeeping platforms.
 
Ms. Pointer’s health and welfare plan experience includes matters related to consumer-driven health arrangements, cafeteria plan requirements, domestic partner benefits, compliance with COBRA, HIPAA privacy and portability, and Health Care Reform.  Ms. Pointer is a member of Seyfarth’s Health Care Reform Team, and has assisted clients with the implementation of Health Care Reform, including issues pertaining to plan design, new employee disclosures, 1094 and 1095 reporting, and the rapidly evolving changes to which employers must adjust.  She also works with clients on implementing HIPAA-compliant policies and negotiating Business Associate Agreements.  

 

Ms. Pointer is active in pro bono activities and has been a member of the Northeast Pension Liaison Committee since 2009.
