Michael Kopp is a senior associate in the Labor & Employment Department of Seyfarth Shaw LLP.  He regularly represents clients in federal and state court actions involving individual and class claims of employment discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and wage and hour infractions.  Michael has successfully defended employers in jury trials, arbitrations, administrative hearings, class actions, and multidistrict litigation.  He specializes in the defense of high stakes complex and class action litigation, including actions consolidated in multidistrict litigation.
 
On traditional labor matters, Michael has successfully first-chaired numerous grievance arbitrations involving discipline and contract interpretation, and has defended unfair labor practice charges on behalf of clients in the refinery, healthcare and transportation industries.
 
Michael has also first chaired multiple employment law actions to complete defense jury verdicts in state trial courts.  He has also successfully defended judgments on appeal, including arguing and winning a matter of first impression under the Family Medical Leave Act before the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.
 
Michael also regularly assists clients with litigation avoidance in connection with employee discipline decisions, refinement of employment policies, negotiation of employment agreements, and compliance with all aspects of federal, state and local employment laws.
 
Michael has been an invited speaker on a range of employment topics, including the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Family Medical Leave Act, and risk avoidance practices in the interview and hiring process.
