Nick Neil is an associate in the Sydney office of Seyfarth Shaw Australia. He is a member of the firm’s International Employment Law practice.

Nick specialises in work health and safety law. Prior to joining Seyfarth Shaw, he was the senior safety solicitor for the NSW Police Force, and prior to this he was a senior WHS legal adviser with the Federal WHS Regulator, Comcare.  He has proven outstanding results in both prosecuting alleged breaches of Federal workplace safety laws, and developing front-end compliance systems to improve safety outcomes within large and complex organisations.  Nick’s safety law advice is targeted, practical, effective and sustainable in its application while facilitating clients’ business objectives.

Nick’s experience includes:

  • Reviewing policies and procedures to mitigate critical safety risks and address WHS legal requirements. This includes reviewing Safety Management Systems against WHS law and the AS-4801 framework, and drafting WHS Due Diligence Frameworks for “officers”.
  • Delivering practical and effective safety law training from operational to board level.
  • Assisting clients with incident investigations and responding to regulator notices and requests.
  • Preparing for and assisting clients at Coronial Inquests and WHS prosecutions.
  • Negotiating and drafting enforceable undertakings to resolve WHS-related disputes.
