Skip Smith is Counsel in the Atlanta office of Seyfarth Shaw LLP and is a member of the firm's Labor and Employment and Wage and Hour Litigation Departments.  
 
Mr. Smith has represented employers before various federal and state courts in all types of employment litigation.  He has successfully defended cases throughout the country involving claims of discrimination on the basis of race, sex, age, disability, religion, and national origin, as well as claims for overtime and minimum wage pay and claims of retaliation, wrongful termination, and breach of contract.  Mr. Smith has extensive experience handling multi-plaintiff class and collective actions under Title VII and the Fair Labor Standards Act in various jurisdictions.  In addition, Mr. Smith regularly advises companies in all areas of workplace law, including counseling and compliance matters, and handles administrative matters before federal and state agencies.  Among others, he represents clients in the retail, healthcare, engineering, meat processing, automotive, and food service industries.
 
Following law school, Mr. Smith clerked for The Honorable Alex T. Howard Jr. of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Alabama.  He has contributed to various publications, including The Fair Labor Standards Act, Second Edition, 2010 Cumulative Supplement (BNA).  Mr. Smith is an active member of All Saints' Episcopal Church and has served on the board of the Stonewall Bar Association of Georgia and on the Human Rights Campaign's Atlanta Steering Committee.  He has also participated as a reading mentor through Everybody Wins! Atlanta and as a volunteer with the Pro Bono Partnership of Atlanta.  Mr. Smith regularly provides pro bono legal assistance to non-profit organizations.
