Charitable Giving

In 2004, we established the Seyfarth Shaw Charitable Foundation, a firm-sponsored private foundation with an annual budget through which we provide grants to qualified organizations on behalf of the firm.

All of our employees, including attorneys and staff, can submit requests to the foundation on behalf of a specific organization.

The mission of the Seyfarth Shaw Charitable Foundation is to improve the quality of life in our communities and to encourage and support the charitable efforts of the people of Seyfarth Shaw by contributing to the charitable organizations in which our people are involved.

The twin priorities of our charitable giving program are our “flagship” charities and our legal aid partners. Our flagship charities are those selected by the people in each office based on a cause that is meaningful to them. They often involve large-scale events in which everyone in the office, including family and friends, can participate. Also, as a member of the legal community, we feel a special obligation to give back to the legal services organizations who provide direct legal services to those in need and who provide referrals, training and support for our lawyers, so we give priority to the agencies with which we work most closely.

Each office in the firm has a Charitable Giving Committee comprised of both attorneys and staff members. These committees direct the charitable giving activities of the local office and prepare an annual charitable giving budget for consideration by the Seyfarth Shaw Charitable Foundation board. The office budgets are based on individual and group requests for support of volunteer activities.

In addition to the firm’s contributions, the individuals in our offices often engage in extraordinary fundraising efforts for our flagship and other charities. They walk, run and ride bikes; they sell homemade baked goods and handmade arts and crafts; they secure raffle items from our vendor partners; and they come up with creative auction items (one partner cut his long hair, another grew his hair into a mullet, another cleaned out the highest bidder’s garage). We are proud of the amazing contributions of our colleagues!
