The Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office recently issued a wave of broad information requests to employers in the Commonwealth seeking data on how companies pay their employees. These unprecedented requests seek information that the AG contends to be targeted at compliance with the Massachusetts Equal Pay Act (“MEPA”), a decades-old law that prohibits discrimination in pay based on sex. As the gender wage gap issue continues to be a hot topic in the current election cycle, scrutiny into pay equity issues will continue to be the subject of increased focus at the national and local levels.

Please join us for a discussion with the Associated Industries of Massachusetts’ (AIM’s) Vice President for Government Affairs, Brad MacDougall, as we discuss:

  • Pending legislative proposals to expand MEPA and what AIM is doing to advocate on behalf of employers in this area
  • Strategies for responding to inquiries from the Attorney General’s Office
  • Using pay equity audits to reduce liability
