On 19 October (US) / 20 October (Hong Kong), attorneys from Seyfarth’s Immigration, Trust and Estates, and International teams held the webinar, “Expanding into America: Immigration Strategies, and Estate and Tax Planning Considerations.”

The U.S. has continued to be a desirable environment for Chinese and other foreign investors, with common investments ranging from real and commercial properties to alternative investments.  However, there are important considerations with respect to immigration, and estate and tax planning when expanding into America.

The presenters broke down four key immigration strategies, including the EB-5 Immigrant Investment Green Card; E-2 Treaty Investor Work Visa for Executives & Managers; L-1A “Intra-Company Transferee” Work Visa for Executives & Managers; and EB-1C Green Card for Multinational Executives or Managers.

The webinar also addressed important estate and tax planning implications, which differ based on whether a person is a non-resident alien or a resident alien/U.S. taxpayer.
