The Washington, DC, office opened in 1971 with two attorneys. Since then, we have grown to approximately 70 lawyers and 55 staff, with attorneys specializing across multiple areas of law and industries. Serving as strategic problem-solvers for our clients, our attorneys collaborate across departments to provide comprehensive advice for companies of all sizes and structures. Our DC attorneys are viewed as trusted advisors for our clients.

Among our strengths are construction and public-private partnerships, corporate and tax, employee benefits, labor and employment, litigation, and real estate and finance. Our DC attorneys bring expertise in specific areas like ADA Title III, cannabis, false advertising, franchise, government contracts, government relations and policy, immigration compliance, institutional investment counseling, and intellectual property, as well as industry expertise in construction, financial services, health care, life sciences and pharma, retail, and hospitality.

What makes the DC office so unique is our attorneys. We have lawyers who are licensed architects, adjunct professors, and those who formerly served as high-ranking officials from the Department of Justice, Department of Labor, and the National Labor Relations Board. Additionally, the former Director of US Citizenship and Immigration Services and the former senior vice president of the US Chamber of Commerce practice out of our DC office, and are key players in our Government Relations and Policy group.

RECOGNITION

We are recognized by the Washington Business Journal as being among the largest law firms in Greater Washington. Our DC office and its attorneys are also nationally and locally recognized by a variety of rankings, such as Chambers USA, The Legal 500, and US News: Best Lawyers and Best Law Firms in several areas. We pair our firm’s national rankings with our specific regional recognition in arbitration and construction law, including litigation, employment law, immigration, labor law, and real estate. Additionally, many of our individual practitioners are ranked as leaders in construction, franchise, labor and employment, mergers and acquisitions/corporate and commercial, real estate, and other areas.

CULTURE

The office encourages bonding and personal wellness. We celebrate birthdays and anniversaries monthly at office luncheons. Each Friday, the office provides a breakfast that includes local fresh bagels, fruit, and other healthy options in our internal cafe. The competitive and fun summer softball team, “Redacted,” is a big hit with employees and attorneys. Our Diversity and Inclusion team has developed a book club to discuss diverse literature, along with several celebrations throughout the year. We have informal get-togethers in the Carroll Square Café, where you can enjoy a sunny terrace, ping-pong game, or television programs.

We are also committed to playing an active, positive role in the communities in which we work and live. We encourage attorneys at all levels to work on a variety of pro bono matters, and as such, have a robust and active local pro bono committee in DC. We partner with organizations such as Capital Area Immigrants’ Rights Coalition and the Legal Aid Society of DC.

Each Spring our office conducts a large (and competitive!) food drive to benefit the Capital Area Food Bank, collecting both nonperishable food items and monetary donations. In the fall, we participate in DC’s Help the Homeless clothing drive, and in December, our employees adopt families living in low-income housing to ensure they enjoy a happy holiday by purchasing wish list gifts and grocery store gift cards for each family. While schools are in session, we also volunteer at the nearby Shakespeare Theatre to help welcome children from Maryland, DC and Virginia to learn about and experience professional theatre performances. Annually, we have participants in the Lymphoma Research Bike Ride, the Lawyers Have Heart Fun Run, and the DC Pride Parade.

Conveniently located between the White House and the Capitol, our office embodies what it means to be in DC. We are within walking distance of several popular restaurants, shopping centers, and historical landmarks, including the National Mall and our prominent Capital One Arena. Highly accessible by the Metro and offering employees and visitors an onsite parking garage, our office offers the perfect balance of workspace and leisure.

Spanning more than five stories, the office reflects the attention to detail we provide our clients in a collaborative culture that encourages teamwork and sustained growth, and reflects our national reputation as a premier full-service law firm. On our first floor, you will find a public art gallery and a complimentary fitness center, as well as rooftop space that provides beautiful views of DC. In addition, our DC employees have access to private outdoor space outside our spacious sixth-floor café.

The office space accommodates our continued expansion, and features a state-of-the-art conference center that allows us to offer our clients continual updates on issues that affect their businesses through breakfast briefings and conferences.
