Alison Silveira, Lilah Wylde, and Natalie Costero Write on Athlete Title IX Compliance and Compensation in Reuters' Westlaw Today
Seyfarth’s Alison Silveira, Lilah Wylde, and Natalie Costero co-authored an article, “The madness of March: Title IX compliance and athlete compensation,” in Thomson Reuters’ Westlaw Today on the eve of the Final Four, April 3. The Seyfarth attorneys discussed the ever-changing landscape of payments to college athletes, particularly Title IX's equal opportunity requirements and the future of revenue-sharing schemes between athletes and their schools.
“When Title IX passed in 1972, it reshaped the college sports landscape — mandating that educational programs receiving federal funding provide equal opportunities for men and women. Over 50 years later, we're seeing the fruits of that legislation play out on a national stage, with women's sports not only growing, but commanding the spotlight.”
