Boston Labor Lawyer Robert Fisher Joins Seyfarth
Seyfarth Shaw LLP announced today that Robert A. Fisher has joined the firm’s Labor and Employment department as a partner in Boston. Fisher joins Seyfarth from Foley Hoag LLP, where he was partner and deputy chair of the Labor and Employment Law Department in Boston.
Fisher’s practice spans the spectrum of labor & employment law from discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims to wage and hour disputes, and a prominent focus in traditional labor. He frequently appears before state and federal courts and administrative agencies, such as the Department of Labor, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, National Labor Relations Board, and Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination. Fisher’s clients are often members of the higher education, technology, hospitality, and financial services industries.
“Rob is a highly qualified traditional labor lawyer, equipped with the talent, skill-set and level of expertise consistent within our department,” said Lisa Damon, chair of Seyfarth’s Labor & Employment department. “The reach of his collective employment law knowledge and experience in single plaintiff, discrimination, and non-compete matters make Rob a natural fit for our firm.”
In addition, Fisher has advised clients on a variety of personnel matters, including executive severance benefits, withdrawal liability disputes in multiemployer pension plans, and compliance with state and federal health care reform laws. His practice also includes contractual disputes such as non-compete litigation and employee benefits issues.
“Rob immediately assumes a significant and meaningful role for our labor practice,” said Laura Maechtlen, vice-chair of Seyfarth’s Labor & Employment department. “Along with his traditional labor practice, Rob advises businesses in wage and hour litigation, ERISA matters and general employment litigation and counseling.”
An active member of the Boston legal community, Fisher is the incoming co-chair of the Labor and Employment Section of the Boston Bar Association and frequently presents and writes on labor and employment topics. He received a J.D., L.L.M., magna cum laude, from Cornell Law School where he was a member of Order of the Coif and Lead Note Editor for the Cornell International Law Journal. Fisher earned a B.S. in Foreign Service, cum laude, from Georgetown University.
“Rob’s strong background in labor relations is not only a significant addition to the Boston office, but to the firm’s growing East Coast labor bench,” said Russell Swapp, managing partner of Seyfarth’s Boston office.
Fisher’s arrival follows the recent addition of Labor and Employment partners John L. Telford, Jr. and John A. “Jack” Lambremont in Atlanta.
