Collective Bargaining Agreement Culminating in Union Ratification Vote
Seyfarth attorneys, working closely with the client’s internal legal and labor relations teams, successfully completed negotiations for a new, national collective bargaining agreement covering the vast majority of this international courier and delivery client’s union-represented workforce in the United States. The new agreement applies to employees who pick up and deliver packages, work in service center facilities, and handle inbound and outbound international shipments at airport gateway operations. In the face of an increasingly aggressive union and a historically high inflationary and low unemployment environment, the new agreement maintains operational flexibilities for the client, balancing acceptable wage and benefit increases. This matter showcases Seyfarth’s ability to effectively manage extremely complex labor negotiations while also avoiding the risk of strikes and other labor disruptions that frequently accompany high-stakes collective bargaining engagements. The bargaining process included the negotiation of national terms, as well as separate bargaining over approximately 30 regional and local riders and supplements setting forth terms and conditions of employment in various municipalities where the client operates. The bargaining process culminated with a successful union ratification vote approving the agreement and all of its sub-agreements.
