International Employment Law Partner Kathryn Weaver Joins Seyfarth, Continuing Firm's Growth in Hong Kong
HONG KONG (January 10, 2023) — Seyfarth has announced that Kathryn Weaver, a highly regarded leader in the field of international employment law, will join the firm as a partner in Hong Kong to head up its regional cross-border employment practice. Weaver is qualified to practice in England, Wales, and Hong Kong, and has extensive experience advising multinational employers on all of their Asia-Pacific HR-related law needs, including employment law, immigration, data privacy, and benefits.
She advises employers on the full range of employment issues they face in Hong Kong and seamlessly handles cross-jurisdictional work across the Asia-Pacific region.
Weaver will be the third partner to join Seyfarth’s growing Hong Kong office in the last 12 months, following the arrival of technology, media, and telecommunications partner Paul Haswell in January 2022 and corporate and commercial partner Stefano Beghi in October 2022.
“Kathryn has a stellar reputation in the field and brings powerful international employment law experience in Hong Kong,” said Darren Perry, managing partner of Seyfarth’s Australian offices and co-chair of the firm’s International department.
Leading employers around the world look to Weaver for practical, holistic, and comprehensive strategies for all their labor and employment needs in the Asia Pacific. Her experience as in-house counsel for global companies in the financial services, technology, and retail sectors gives her keen and well-rounded insight into what clients require from their external employment counsel.
“Seyfarth’s international employment practice has seen an ever-increasing demand for assistance across the Asia-Pacific region from its multinational clients, both on a standalone basis and as a component of global employment law/HR advisory and compliance projects, for many of the world’s leading companies," said Peter Talibart, co-chair of the firm’s International department. “Kathryn is a strong global leader in this field and brings unparalleled depth of experience in the region to our team. She is a highly impressive person, a world class advisor, and a very exciting addition to our global platform.”
“I am hugely excited to join Seyfarth and to work with Pete and Darren to grow both the firm’s Asia Pacific and the international employment law practice,” said Weaver. “Seyfarth has an excellent reputation in the field and ambitious growth plans for the region, which is what attracted me to the role. My job now is to use my previous experience in building a large, highly regarded employment team in Hong Kong to work with Seyfarth to achieve the same. This is a unique opportunity to add my career experience and skill set to that of a global powerhouse, Am Law 100 law firm and its leading employment lawyers."
Seyfarth’s International department has experienced significant growth and recognition since expanding its Asia-Pacific presence into Hong Kong in 2017. The team has received numerous honors for superb legal work and innovation, including Best Lawyers in Australia’s “Law Firm of the Year” for Labor and Employment in 2020; and top rankings in Chambers Asia-Pacific, IFLR1000, The Legal 500, and Doyles Guide.
