Seyfarth’s John Egan, Ashley Jenkins, Kristin Pendergrass, and Ingrid Manevitz co-authored an article, “Colorful Lessons From NYC's Emotional Support Parrot Suit,” in Law360 on October 15. The Seyfarth attorneys discussed that a resident with a disability may request accommodations, in order to access and enjoy housing on an equal basis, and these accommodations can take the form of changes or exceptions to policies or protocols of the housing provider, even as unusual as an emotional support parrot.

“The bottom line is that, no matter how outlandish or over-the-top an accommodation request in housing may seem at first blush, housing providers should not, under any circumstances, pre-judge the request or the outcome.”
