Laura Maechtlen Honored with Deborah J. Broyles Law Firm Diversity Award by California Minority Counsel Program
(September 16, 2024) – Laura Maechtlen, chair of the national Labor & Employment department at Seyfarth Shaw LLP, co-chair of the firm's National Diversity & Inclusion Action Team, and member of the firm’s Executive Committee, has been honored with the Deborah J. Broyles Law Firm Diversity Award by the California Minority Counsel Program (CMCP).
This prestigious award recognizes outstanding contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion within the legal profession. Maechtlen was honored for her “remarkable dedication to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within your firm and the broader legal community.”
She received the award at the 2024 CMCP Annual Business Conference celebrating CMCP’s 35th Anniversary on September 13, 2024.
“This year’s award recipients embody the core values of diversity, equity, and inclusion that CMCP champions,” said Tracey Broadhead, Executive Director of CMCP. “Your sustained involvement with CMCP, your impactful achievements in promoting diversity at your firm, and your personal commitment to mentoring and developing attorneys of color have distinguished you as a leader in our community.”
“This award is very special in many ways for me,” said Maechtlen. “Deborah Broyles was a mentor of mine earlier in my career. I was truly inspired by the way she led at her firm and the CMPC. Promoting diversity and inclusion at my own firm and in the legal sector has always been a top priority for me and one in which I take immense pride.”
California Minority Counsel Program established its awards to recognize lawyers at majority-owned firms who have made significant contributions to advancing diversity in the legal profession. “Their unwavering commitment to advancing diversity in the legal profession is truly inspiring, and we are honored to recognize their achievements,” CMPC stated. “They are not only leaders in their respective fields but also advocates of a more equitable and inclusive future for all.”
