Laura Shelby Quoted in The Recorder
"Big Law Bounces Back"
Seyfarth Shaw Los Angeles Co-Managing Partner Laura Shelby was quoted in The Recorder on June 2 in an article accompanying the publication's "Top 25 Firms" with a substantial California presence.
The article discussed the increase in law firm profits and revenue, especially in the California market, with an uptake in litigation and corporate work in 2010 as clients have become willing to spend more money on litigation than previously during the market downturn. Laura mentioned the increase in work, mainly single-plaintiff wrongful termination and discrimination actions and EEOC-led investigations and litigation, and Seyfarth was noted for being "back in hiring mode," and anticipating adding more partners, associates, and paralegals at all levels.
"We seem to have a lot more work than we can handle," Laura commented. "In the recession, many of them had to look at cases from just an investment of money point of view. They might settle a case because it was the most cost-effective thing to do even if it was a case they wanted to fight."
