Legal Considerations for Employing Minors
About the Program
The employment of minors is subject to stringent regulations imposed by both state and federal authorities, leaving no margin for error.
Recent crackdowns and increased penalties from agencies like U.S. DOL’s Wage and Hour Division (WHD) send a clear message: compliance is non-negotiable. While well-meaning employers share WHD’s dedication to safeguarding the rights and well-being of young workers, businesses must remain cognizant of the shifting compliance landscape to ensure they meet their obligations.
During this program, Seyfarth attorneys Ariel Fenster and Scott Hecker unravel the intricacies of child labor laws. They not only explore the necessary requirements and best practices, but also offer invaluable insights into the practical implications for employers. Topics covered include:
- Onboarding minors;
- Wage-hour notice requirements;
- Minors' working hours;
- State-specific laws; and
- Government initiatives and possible exposure.
