Ofer Lion quoted in Bloomberg BNA Daily Tax Report, “Pace of Exempt Applications Picks Up At IRS, but Some See It Coming at a Price”

Ofer Lion was quoted in an October 31 story from Bloomberg BNA Daily Tax Report on the IRS’ introduction of Form 1023-EZ, which gives would-be exempt organizations a much easier route to obtaining exempt status as charities. Specifically, Lion discusses the potential drawbacks to the EZ form such as asking the applicant to sign off on items that used to be in the purview of the IRS to determine. Additionally, IRS and Treasury officials have been reluctant to say that a determination of tax exemption based on an EZ form can be relied upon by grantmaking foundations.
