Perhaps nowhere has the peculiarity of California law been more prominent than with regard to labor and employment law. At annual intervals throughout this century, Seyfarth’s California-based labor and employment lawyers have cataloged how California law deviates from prevailing American labor and employment law. The result, “Cal-Peculiarities - How California Employment Law is Different,” summarizes the legislative, judicial, and regulatory developments that have made California a uniquely challenging environment for private employers.

This just-released 2024 edition contains contributions from many Seyfarth lawyers—all members or friends of the firm’s California Workplace Solutions Group.

Seyfarth once again spotlights those unorthodox laws and regulations by highlighting differences between federal and California law in key areas of interest to private employers that operate both in California and in the rest of the United States. Some of the areas covered in this year’s Cal-Pecs include:

  • California Employment Law Agencies
  • Leave and Accommodation Statutes
  • Employee Privacy
  • Employment Discrimination Legislation and Litigation
  • Wage and Hour Laws
  • Employee Benefits
  • Health and Safety Laws
