Sul Kim Joins Seyfarth as Labor & Employment Partner in Atlanta
ATLANTA (April 10, 2023) - Seyfarth Shaw LLP has announced that Sul Kim has joined the firm as a partner in its Labor & Employment department in its Labor Management Relations Practice Group, based in Atlanta.
Kim brings to Seyfarth substantial experience representing clients, both regional and national, in challenging traditional labor law and wage-hour matters. Her practice covers matters involving traditional labor law, wage and hour, employment training and compliance, employment litigation, and workplace safety and health.
Kim, as a litigator and substantive advisor, has represented and counseled employers of all sizes across many different industries over a variety of issues. Her client work has covered union organizing campaigns, National Labor Relations Board proceedings, workplace safety and health issues, race, national origin, age, disability, religion and sex discrimination and harassment claims, and individual and collective wage and hour actions.
“Sul Kim is a dynamic labor and employment lawyer who has built a solid national reputation as a business-savvy practical counselor concerning such key areas as union organizing petitions, OSHA, the FLSA, claims defense and training and compliance programs,’ said Laura Maechtlen, chair of the firm’s national Labor & Employment department and co-chair of Seyfarth’s National Diversity & Inclusion Action Team. “Sul also exemplifies the diversity of our lawyers in several ways, an important component of Seyfarth’s client- and talent-centered culture.”
Kim’s experience extends to foreign-based international companies, particularly in the automotive, EV, and manufacturing sectors. As a 1.5 generation immigrant fluent in Korean and English, she offers a first-hand understanding of the complexities of cultural differences, enabling her to deliver practical and comprehensive business and legal advice to foreign employers who are not familiar with U.S. labor and employment law.
“Sul Kim has developed a strong reputation, both as a noted labor and employment lawyer and in Georgia’s business community, as a business-savvy practical counselor,” said Steve Kennedy, managing partner for Seyfarth’s Atlanta office. “Her addition to Seyfarth will help us to continue to extend our legal services by broadening our client base and further enhancing our standing in the region.”
Kim’s practice stretches beyond labor and employment practice to service needs spanning real estate, tax, commercial litigation, and bond work for South Korean clients who have learned of her capabilities to manage cross-disciplinary matters.
“I am excited about benefiting from Seyfarth’s exceptional national platform and its superb collaborative team members to expand my client base, in coordination with the sophisticated practice that I have developed,” said Kim. “Seyfarth’s reputation as a world-class pre-eminent law firm in labor and employment, its reputation for diversity, and its commitment to support my practice make it an ideal firm for me to join.”
Kim comes to Seyfarth from Akerman, where she was a partner.
She is a member of the Georgia Defense Lawyers Association, the GAPABA Women’s Leadership Network, which she co-founded and served as a co-chair, the Korean American Coalition, where she has served on the Board, and the Korean American Bar Association. Kim has spoken and written about a variety of labor and employment topics throughout her career.
Kim earned her J.D. from the University of South Carolina School of Law as well as her B.S. from the University of South Carolina.
