More About Mark
Mark’s clients are looking to grow their businesses. Mark partners with clients to help create new business models, raise capital, protect their investment, and solve legal problems that have arisen with their principals, personnel, counterparties or competitors.
Mark brings 35 years of experience as a corporate, securities and business lawyer, as well as 25 years of experience in law firm leadership to identity solutions, counsel on handling of personalities and deal politics, and identifying real legal issues and practical solutions to those issues.
He is supported by a deep bench of talent across numerous areas, including litigation, health law, tax and real estate. As managing partner of the firm's Houston office and a leader in the Corporate group, he can quickly identify the right person and level of experience necessary to most efficiently handle client legal and project needs.
Mark has experience with every size company, from formation to initial public offering and thereafter. He has represented dozens of public company clients with their capital raising needs, stock exchange and sec reporting obligations. Mark has worked extensively in the health industry with a vast range of health providers, and brings awareness of the unique regulatory issues and general business law acumen to clients in this highly regulated arena. He enjoys working with entrepreneurs and growing companies, and he understands the legal issues that often challenge them.
Mark’s diverse experience includes serving in multi-year relationships as outside general counsel to energy companies, technology companies, health service companies, large physician practices, and fast-growing startups. He has also helped form and represent venture capital funds.
“I like creative problem solving best and have strong interpersonal skills. I was an economics major in college and think in terms of cost-benefit analysis, always, in advising clients.”
Using his Lean Six Sigma green belt certification, Mark brings strong process management skills to his client projects. He thinks proactively on behalf of his clients to identity material issues and risks for them, and to add value as a counselor. He focuses uppermost on the value he can bring his clients for their immediate challenge—and in a long-term relationship, as well.
Mark loves problem-solving. In his words, “I love actually helping my clients. I love learning my clients’ businesses and working with the talented people who build them. I love working with my diverse and vastly talented colleagues inside my firm.”
