More About Shawn
Shawn serves as national chair of the firm’s Commercial Litigation practice group. He has over 25 years of experience representing clients in commercial and product liability matters, including a focus on the investigation and defense of claims arising out of fires and explosions. Shawn has won cases in state and federal courts throughout the country, including in Texas, California, New York, North Carolina, Iowa, Indiana, Delaware, and Illinois. He has also prevailed as lead appellate counsel before the United States Fifth and Seventh Circuit Courts of Appeal and the Illinois First District Appellate Court.
Shawn’s experience includes the representation of US and UK manufacturers in connection with product related disputes and supply chain issues and agreements throughout the world. He has presented to the Chicago International Trade Commissioner’s Association regarding product liability issues facing multinational companies. Shawn is also a member of the Federal Trial Bar in the Northern District of Illinois.
Shawn has published and presented on a broad scope of topics relevant to civil practice, product liability, and commercial litigation. He co-authors the Illinois State Bar Association Civil Practice Handbook chapter regarding motion practice and serves as an annual presenter at the ISBA Civil Practice Conference. For more than a decade, Shawn served by appointment on the Civil Practice Council of the Illinois State Bar Association. He has also served as a featured columnist in Chicago Lawyer magazine and is a recipient of its Annual Writing Award. He was previously honored by the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin as part of its “40 under 40” listing and selected by his peers as an Illinois “Leading Lawyer” in appellate practice and commercial litigation. Most recently, Shawn was listed among The Best Lawyers in America (Woodward/White Inc.) in commercial litigation (2013-2022), and the Commercial Litigation practice group that he chairs was ranked among the nation’s “Best Law Firms” by Best Lawyers and US News & World Report, including Tier 1 rankings in Chicago and Los Angeles.
