Tom is a civil litigator who explains clients' often complex stories to judges, juries, arbitrators, and mediators. He finds the most efficient way to achieve the best solutions to his clients' litigation matters.
More About Tom
Tom is the chair of the firm’s Products Liability Group, the co-chair of the firm’s Insurance Coverage Practice, and the chair of the Washington, DC, office's Litigation Practice Group. He has a nearly 30-year track record of achieving clients' litigation goals. Often, success is achieved by identifying the key legal and factual matters that will lead to an early resolution.
Tom’s practice frequently involves representing defendants in complex product liability litigation alleging that products are carcinogenic. Tom routinely litigates federal multidistrict litigation and similar state consolidated litigation involving the inadmissibility of plaintiffs’ expert opinions regarding scientific and medical issues. He works closely with defense experts to explain complicated topics to courts and juries. His clients frequently prevail at relatively early stages of litigation on procedural motions to dismiss and narrowly tailored motions for summary judgment.
When faced with a complex contract or business tort lawsuit, clients quickly need to determine how to achieve the best result in the most efficient manner. Tom listens to clients and helps them evaluate their litigation goals.
Tom commits himself to his clients and their success through all of their legal obstacles. For example, he has obtained thousands of dismissals on behalf of a client that had been sued across the country in product liability litigation. In another matter, Tom's client was the only defendant to obtain judgment in its favor, even though several other defendants had the same grounds for obtaining judgment.
Tom has worked with clients on a wide range of matters, such as breach of contract, insurance coverage, products liability, real estate, and business torts litigation. He helps clients determine realistic goals, and analyzes the most efficient ways to achieve those goals.
Tom appreciates that Seyfarth emphasizes providing value to clients, and understands that one size does not fit all clients or cases. He enjoys working with firm resources and technology to help clients efficiently establish litigation goals and a budget.
