Development
Development projects of every size face challenges ranging from economic uncertainty and disruptive technology to population shifts and natural disasters. Seizing the opportunity requires grit and a strategic partner who can guide you through the legal challenges.
HOW WE HELP
From conception to completion, clients rely on Seyfarth’s real estate lawyers for practical and entrepreneurial advice. Our experienced deal teams handle all aspects of real estate development, including joint venture agreements, acquisition and ground lease development, construction and project financing, institutional investment, and construction of large, complex projects. We also routinely handle post-development asset management, leasing, refinancing, and disposition matters.
We understand the priorities in connection with development projects, which gives our clients a competitive advantage. Among the projects we have handled are mixed-use projects; commercial, retail, office, and multifamily projects; distribution facilities; stadiums; universities; hotels; and health care developments. Clients also look to our real estate development lawyers to quarterback transactions that cross multiple components such as construction, project finance, environmental, corporate, litigation, ADA, and tax related issues. We are able to leverage firm resources to provide seamless advice across all of these critical practice areas.
We are invested in our clients’ business goals and have extensive experience representing developers, investors, owners, lenders, landlords, tenants, property managers, brokers, contractors, construction managers, design professionals, governmental authorities, and institutional clients such as REITs, insurance companies, pension funds, investment managers, foreign entities, funds, and not-for-profit entities.
Our development capabilities are best showcased through real examples of our work. Examples of recent transactions include:
- Represented a Major League Soccer expansion team in connection with the ground lease and development of a new multipurpose stadium in Los Angeles, California.
- Represented a private equity real estate firm in a $75 million acquisition, capital structure, development, and financing of 31 acres in Charleston, South Carolina.
