California employers navigate difficult matters on a daily basis, with federal regulations, the California Labor Code, and local ordinances imposing even more burdensome requirements. Clients nationwide look to Ryan for practical solutions to address the day-to-day concerns arising from the employment relationship.
Ryan's practice is focused on employment litigation, with a particular emphasis on wage-and-hour class and collective action litigation under the California Labor Code and FLSA. He is one of very few California attorneys who has been intimately involved in preparing for and assisting in the defense of a wage-and-hour class action case at trial. Ryan also handles single- and multiplaintiff claims for discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, including whistleblower claims. He has represented financial services firms in employment disputes before the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA).
In addition to his litigation practice, Ryan provides day-to-day counseling and advice to employers concerning the various local, state, and federal laws affecting the employment relationship. He advises clients regarding wage-and-hour matters, employment policies and practices, termination decisions, internal complaints and workplace investigations, and negotiating employment and severance agreements.
Ryan also frequently provides pro bono advice and counseling concerning employment matters to several local nonprofits, and volunteers with pro bono program Kids in Need of Defense (KIND).
Ryan has dedicated his practice to helping California employers thrive in their relationships with employees. He draws on a wealth of experience to create the right strategy for each situation. Ryan makes sure his clients get immediate and substantive feedback when asked, which helps relieve the pressure many employers feel when the unexpected happens.
