More About Courtney
Courtney assists clients in defending employment litigations, from single-plaintiff charges or lawsuits to class actions and multi-plaintiff cases. Courtney has experience in defending high-stakes claims involving discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, in particular litigation involving company executives, partners, and other stake holders.
Having a substantial amount of trial experience, Courtney views cases with a high-level lens. This has given her a more strategic perspective at all stages of litigation. She is also adept at understanding business needs and considering pragmatic solutions that meet business objectives.
Courtney has significant first- and second-chair trial experience in many different matters. She once secured a complete defense jury verdict on a race discrimination case brought by a former vice president of the company following a seven-week jury trial. Courtney also obtained the dismissal of four out of six claims on a motion for directed verdict and secured a defense jury verdict on the remaining claims of gender discrimination and retaliation for a Fortune 25 client. She has also secured a defense verdict following a bench trial on defamation and breach of contract claims. Additionally, Courtney once obtained a complete walk-away for a Fortune 25 client days before trial, including the voluntary and with prejudice dismissal of all claims in a multi-plaintiff action.
Courtney also routinely provides advice and counsel to employers on employment questions of all types—wage-and-hour compliance, internal investigations, and accommodation and leave requests. She also has experience advising on employment agreements, including partnership and executive compensation agreements. Courtney has substantial experience working in the financial services industry, including with private fund sponsors and other financial services firms.
In addition, Courtney has experience defending employers and consumer reporting agencies in claims brought under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), as well as state and local "ban the box" laws and other laws governing consideration of criminal history for employment purposes. She also helps companies, both large and small, develop nationwide background check processes, and provides advice and counsel on issues concerning compliance in considering criminal history.
Courtney solves problems for clients and helps bring a resolution to their workplace disputes.
